What is the structure of the double suction pump

The impeller of double suction pump can be regarded as a composition of two single suction impeller back to back, which is like two impeller arranged symmetrically, so it can be considered that there will be no axial force when working. However, due to the reasons of manufacturing and assembly, there are always size deviations. It is impossible to achieve absolute symmetry. In addition, the fluid flow can not be absolutely symmetrical. Therefore, there must be residual axial force. Therefore, the general double suction pumps are equipped with radial rolling bearings to bear the remaining axial force.

It should be emphasized that the horizontal single stage double suction pump (Figure 1) mostly adopts the middle open structure, and the combination surface of the pump body and the pump cover is usually through the horizontal plane of the axial line, which is usually called the middle open surface. Because of this structure, we can uncover the parts in the pump by opening the pump cover, and do not need to disassemble the inlet and outlet pipelines and mobile motors or other prime movers. The repair is very convenient.

Compared with the single suction pump, the double suction pump has a larger flow rate and better suction performance; compared with the mixed flow pump, it has a higher lift.
